Modern Idrija lace

For fashion designers, artists and other creative people Idrija Lace nowadays provides a great challenge. Their creations can be admired at the permanent exhibition ‘Idrija Lace – A History Written in Thread’ in Gewerkenegg Castle. 

Traditional co-operation between Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, and bobbin lace makers from Idrija, has resulted in exceptional works of art. Not only do they preserve the lace tradition from Idrija, but they also provide proof that the individual and fresh nature of lace provides exceptional designing opportunities and various modifications in new, contemporary forms.

Many innovations and new developments in bobbin lace making in Idrija can be seen every year at the traditionally held Idrija Lace Festival, organized by the Idrija Heritage Centre, which aims to promote and win world recognition of Idrija lace through different activities.
